The attribution of agency is fundamental to our subjective interpretation of own actions and perceived consequences. However, it is presently unclear where such computations happen in the brain and how they may operate. I will give an overview of different models of agency and their mapping onto brain circuits. Particularly, I will introduce a novel model of prediction within a loop composed of the basal ganglia and intralaminar thalamic nuclei. We suggest that this loop shall implement a fundamental mechanism in the formation of association between our actions and their outcomes.
