Disorders of the self

University Hospital Cologne & University of Cologne

Kai Vogeley

Concepts of the different levels of the self ranging from a minimal to an extended and interpersonal self are very useful to describe and understand variants or disturbances of subjectivity and intersubjectivity in psychopathological conditions. Some major psychopathological symptoms will be presented to be understood as disorders of the self. A focus will be on the intrapersonal synchrony (integration of gaze and deixis) and on the interpersonal synchrony in gaze-based interaction with virtual characters and real dyadic communication involving persons with autism spectrum disorder.
